Kelly's Watford 10k
Monday, 07 May 2018
We hope you are looking forward to the Kelly's Watford 10k this Bank Holiday Monday. We have a little something extra for you to try at the event this weekend. We are trialling an app which is integrated with the timing software from our chip timing team at EMIT-UK.
This app will allow you to see the important race information in one place with links to the event website, notifications, social media and results page. The main feature of the app is the ability for you to be tracked by your friends and/or family around the course via your mobile phone signal. It will show where you are on the course map and give a predicted finish time based on your pace to help those who need to know when you might be at the finish line.
To download the FREE app head to your relevant app store (ios or android) and search for 'Athlinks Race Day'. Once you have installed the app you will then need to upload the event details by searching for 'Kelly's Watford 10K'.
To utilise the tracking feature you must have enabled location services on your device and ensure that the app has the appropriate permissions. Those wishing to track you will also need to have downloaded the app and event details. 24 hours before the race the roster will populate the entry list and you will be able to find yourself in the tracking feature. Don't worry if you can't see yourself before then you can use the registration link to confirm you are registered.
Some FAQ's about the tracking feature are:
Question: How do I track myself/someone else with GPS?
Answer: In order for GPS to track an athlete, the athlete must have their phone on them while running and must hit the "Start Tracking" button as they approach or cross the start line; otherwise, GPS will not track them.
Question: How many people can I track?
Answer: As a spectator, you can track up to 10 athletes. As a participant, you can only track yourself.
Question: Why does my app close down when I try to start tracking?
Answer: If your phone's location services are disabled on your phone, the app will automatically close down. This is an issue that is currently being addressed. To avoid this, simply make sure you enable location services on your phone before trying to launch tracking.
Question: When should I start the tracking feature?
Answer: We recommend starting the tracking feature a couple minutes before the race start. Time is not as important for the tracking as your location. Pace and position information will begin populating once you are 100 meters past the start line.
